Wayne Simien, Jr.
Called To Greatness, Founder & President

Wayne grew up with a passion for playing sports.  At an early age he began to excel at his favorite sport, basketball.  What started out as playing a game just for fun turned into a valuable tool that would positively influence many aspects of his life.  After attaining the titles of Kansas 6A State Champion, McDonald’s High School All-American and honor roll student, he was given the opportunity to attend the historic University of Kansas on an athletic scholarship.

Although just playing at KU was a childhood dream come true for Wayne , his college career far surpassed his expectations.  He was a part of two Final Four teams, claimed three Big XII Championships, was named Big XII Player of the Year, two-time All-American and graduated with a degree in Sociology.  None of these accolades, however, were the highlight of his college experience.  At the end of his sophomore year, Wayne found himself searching for something greater to live for than just himself and basketball.  He found the answer to his searching in Jesus Christ and became a born-again Christian the summer of 2003.  This was the most significant moment in his life.

Wayne was drafted in the first round of the 2005 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat and his rookie year, had the privilege of being a part of the 2006 NBA World Championship team.  Basketball has taken him around the world.  He played professionally in Spain and has hosted a number of basketball camps in the Caribbean, the Philippines and Israel , preaching the gospel as he went. He now enjoy's ministering through Called To Greatness as an ordained minister and volunteers as KU Religious Advisor and Mentor of Student Athlete Delvelopment.

With the support of his wife Katherine, three children Selah, Rael, Simon and a host of others, it is Wayne ’s heart to see people's lives dramatically transformed by the message and life of Jesus Christ.  He desires to see youth, parents and coaches reached through athletics to answer the true call to greatness, which is following Jesus.
